RTPI Scotland welcomes National Planning Strategies– opportunity to build on this to achieve a world-class planning system

17 July 2013

AlistairRTPI Scotland, the body representing professional planners in Scotland, has welcomed the draft National Planning Framework (NPF3) and Scottish Planning Policy (SPP) in its consultation responses, and calls on the Government to go further to develop a truly world-class planning system.

Alistair MacDonald, RTPI Scotland’s Convenor, said: “The drafts of the National Planning Framework 3 (NPF3) and the Scottish Planning Policy (SPP) contain welcome improvements and updates to planning policy and provide greater focus on the role and ambitions for the planning system. They provide the basis of an effective, efficient and distinctive planning system that can create great places for people across Scotland.

RTPI Scotland calls on Scottish Government to build on this and ensure that we have a truly world-class planning system by providing greater certainty to investors by explicitly stating its priorities,  be clearer still on their ambitions and how they intend to measure progress, ensure that the documents provide a hierarchy that separates policy from action required and technical advice, and allow planners to focus more of their efforts on the activities that add value to communities and developments.  We are keen to work with Scottish Government to take this forward.”
