One of Colin Haylock's
final acts as President of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI)
at last week's (16 January) General Assembly was to present Peter
Wilbraham with the prestigious and rarely given RTPI's Outstanding
Colin Haylock said: "I've known Peter for more years than
perhaps either of care to remember - and, as with many people that
Peter has worked with over the years, have become friends as well
as colleagues. However, it was only when preparing to give the
award that I was reminded of just how much Peter has done for the

"He has been a member of the Institute since 1973, during which
time he served and as Honorary Solicitor and Secretary for nearly
sixteen years, until the end of 2011. He also served among other
things on Council, Management Board, General Assembly, the Board of
Trustees, Governance Working Group and Subscriptions Appeal Panel,
acted as joint line manager to the previous Secretary General, has
been a Director of the Institute's trading company, RTPI Services
Ltd, since 1996 and continues to act as a Legal Member
representative on the General Assembly.
On a personal level I particularly appreciated the support he
gave to us when we were working our way through the potentially
complex issues involved in reviewing the Institute's governance
arrangements. The wisdom and clarity of his advice was absolutely

the same meeting as we marked some of the fruits of this review
with the introduction of Andrew Taylor as the first
specifically elected Chair of our Board of Trustees.
It's a privilege and an honour to present Peter with the richly
deserved RTPI's Outstanding Service Award."
