RTPI acknowledges Peter Wilbraham's tremendous service

17 January 2013

Peter WilbrahamOne of Colin Haylock's final acts as President of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) at last week's (16 January) General Assembly was to present Peter Wilbraham with the prestigious and rarely given RTPI's Outstanding Service Award.

Colin Haylock said: "I've known Peter for more years than perhaps either of care to remember - and, as with many people that Peter has worked with over the years, have become friends as well as colleagues. However, it was only when preparing to give the award that I was reminded of just how much Peter has done for the Institute."

Pictured above: Peter Wilbraham receives his award from Colin Haylock, RTPI President 2012-13.

"He has been a member of the Institute since 1973, during which time he served and as Honorary Solicitor and Secretary for nearly sixteen years, until the end of 2011. He also served among other things on Council, Management Board, General Assembly, the Board of Trustees, Governance Working Group and Subscriptions Appeal Panel, acted as joint line manager to the previous Secretary General, has been a Director of the Institute's trading company, RTPI Services Ltd, since 1996 and continues to act as a Legal Member representative on the General Assembly.

On a personal level I particularly appreciated the support he gave to us when we were working our way through the potentially complex issues involved in reviewing the Institute's governance arrangements. The wisdom and clarity of his advice was absolutely invaluable.

It was in some ways fitting that we made the award to Peter at the same meeting as we marked some of the fruits of this review with the introduction of Andrew Taylor as  the first specifically elected Chair of our Board of Trustees.

It's a privilege and an honour to present Peter with the richly deserved RTPI's Outstanding Service Award."
