RTPI President Dr Peter Geraghty has been appointed to the Advisory Board of the new UKTI Regeneration Investment Organisation (RIO).
Announced by the Prime Minister at the Lords Mayor's Banquet last month and administered by UK Trade and Investment, ROI will direct investors to credible, UK industry-backed development opportunities throughout the country, helping to boost international investor confidence and ensuring good local projects get the investment they need to succeed.
Dr Peter Geraghty, President of the RTPI, has been appointed to the prestigious Board. He said: “I am delighted and honoured to be working with Sir Michael Bear and his colleagues on the recently announced Regeneration Investment Organisation (RIO). Planning has a fundamental and influential role to play in bringing about regeneration and creating the stable conditions to encourage investors and developers to make sound investment decisions. I am greatly optimistic about the potential of RIO and look forward to playing a positive part on behalf of the planning profession.”
Dr Geraghty will sit alongside Sir Michael Bear who will chair the Advisory Board, Michael Newey, RICS President 2013-2014; John Herbert, Global Head of Real Estate & Hospitality, HSBC; Jonathan Harris, Senior MD Real Estate Group in Macquarie Capital EMEA; Jon Milward, Partner, Deloitte; David Partridge, Managing Partner, Argent; Bill Oliver, CEO, St Modwen; Professor Michael Parkinson CBE, Liverpool University; Core Cities; Sir Howard Bernstein, Chief Executive, Manchester City Council; Sir Edward Lister, Deputy Mayor, GLA; Stephen Dance Head, Infrastructure UK; Representatives from the Devolved Administrations.
RIO’s chief operating officer, Nahid Majid OBE, trained and qualified as a town planner (with a degree in urban planning) and an urban designer (masters in urban design).
