Entries for consultancy and local authority team categories for the RTPI Awards for Planning Excellence now open

Entries for the consultancy and team categories for the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) Awards for Planning Excellence are now open. For the first time, an award for the Local Authority Planning Team of the Year will be given.

Taking place during the RTPI’s prestigious centenary year, the awards the RTPI Awards for Planning Excellence will highlight, celebrate and inspire. The Awards are organised by the RTPI, the organisation that represents professional planners in the UK which with 23,000 members worldwide is the largest planning institute in Europe.

The RTPI Awards for Planning Excellence offer an opportunity to highlight and celebrate best practice and inspire others. The category consultancy and local authority team categories offer an opportunity for teams and planning consultancies to shine a light on their work.

Dr Peter Geraghty, President of the RTPI, said:  "The RTPI Awards for Planning Excellence offer an opportunity to highlight and celebrate best practice and inspire others. The category consultancy and local authority team categories offer an opportunity for teams and planning consultancies to shine a light on their work.”

 Dr Geraghty added: “I expect that the new award for local authorities will be hotly contested as I know from experience that there are some fantastically talented planning teams.”

30 judges drawn from planning, the built environment and politics will be participating this year. The consultancy and team categories are:

  • Local Authority Planning Team of the Year
  • Planning Consultancy of the Year
  • Small Planning Consultancy of the Year

 The deadline for entries is 4.30pm on 31 January 2014.

 Submissions are still open for the project categories:

  • Outstanding planning to deliver growth & employment
  • Leading the way in planning for community
  • Excellence in planning and design for the public realm
  • Best planning for natural and built heritage
  • Exemplary planning to deliver housing
  • Innovative planning practice in plan making
  • Innovative planning practice in decision making

Each year the RTPI presents the Silver Jubilee Cup to the overall category winner.

There is no requirement to be a member of the RTPI to enter the awards and entries for a project or a plan can be submitted by the planner, architect, planning authority, developer, or client. Entry is a simple and low cost process.
