Welsh Planning Policy update

14 November 2012

Following consultations earlier this year on strengthening a presumption in favour of sustainable development   and revisions to Chapter 7 (Supporting the Economy) of Planning Policy Wales the Welsh Government published published Edition 5 of Planning Policy Wales earlier this month.

The revised national planning policy for Wales reinforces the need for adopted development plans to be in place and to use these plans in determining planning applications. In recognising the role that planning can play to support the economy, the revised Chapter 7 sets out how economic development should be considered alongside other sustainable development considerations; the emphasis is on considering the 'whole economy'.

The Welsh Government is currently working on a new TAN (Technical Advice Note) to provide advice and guidance to support the policies in Chapter 7.
