Minister meets RTPI Young Planners Network

12 July 2012

The image of planning and the profession, planning education, driving forward strategic development projects and the Community Infrastructure Levy all featured on the agenda as representatives from the Young Planners Network (YPN) and the RTPI's Chief Executive, Trudi Elliott, met this week with Greg Clark MP, Minister for Cities, Decentralisation & Planning.

The hour long meeting allowed network members to bring the perspective of early career planning professionals on a range of different issues. The Minister who had just announced a further package of proposals to simplify the planning system met with representatives from Scotland, London, the South East, West Midlands, North East and the North West.

The Minister was particularly interested in hearing about personal experiences of how the Community Infrastructure Levy was working in practice and what could be done to improve the current system.

Wayne Reynolds, Chair of the Regional Young Planners Group, said:

\"This was a tremendous opportunity for us to engage with the Minister on current policy and practice. The outcome of the meeting was clear – the Minister is keen to engage with us on development and planning matters and has challenged members to bring forward comments on how the current system works in practice and when required provide solutions to issues that arise. The network continues to grow from strength to strength and through continued engagement with the Minister the network can play a key role in developing future statute and policy.\"

During the close of the meeting the Minister agreed to attend the YP Conference in London between the 25th and 27th of October.

The Young Planners Network is for all planners under the age of 35. Join now to keep updated. If you are a member but know someone who isn't, then please ask them to join.
