High Cross shoppers flock to free planning advise roadshow

27 January 2009

Hundreds of curious High Cross shoppers in Leicester took time out from their daily routine yesterday to find out more about accessing free planning advice at the first of three Planning Aid East Midlands roadshows in the region.

Crowds joined Planning Aid East Midlands Manager Penny Strutton to watch a giant 10ft by 5ft plasma screen show for the first time a specially made 60 second 'infomercial' explaining how the Planning Aid service can help local people.

Penny Strutton said of the launch: \"The Planning Aid service is here to help local people understand planning and the roadshow is an effective way to get our message across to the community. We're pleased so many people came up to the stand to speak with us and pick up information packs and we encourage more people to drop down to the shopping centre to see how we can help.\"

The East Midlands roadshows are part of a nationwide Planning Aid campaign funded by the government to help local people get to grips with the complexities of the planning system. Planning Aid is a community service offering free, impartial advice and support on planning issues to individuals and groups.

Two further roadshows are scheduled for the East Midlands region in March:

• Monday 9th March – Sunday 15th March: Newlands Shopping Centre, Kettering
• Monday 23rd March – Sunday 29th March: Grosvenor Shopping Centre, Northampton

The High Cross Shopping Centre roadshow runs until Sunday 1st February.
